Creating a Master Retreat

Posted on February 5th, 2020 by exoutlet.

Creating a master bedroom retreat is important for many reasons, specifically having a place to unwind from the moments of chaos in a day, a calming area to relax before bedtime, and a soothing spot to wake up in the morning.

Having an uncluttered space is most important. When you see disorder Whether it is papers, piles of laundry, or family belongings, disorder makes relaxation difficult. Storage pieces like cabinets are a must. Keeping clutter organized and out of site to help a room feel more serene. One of our many unique Global Import cabinets are great to add to any space. They are beautifully hand-crafted, and seem to have a story all their own. Details such as architectural elements and hand carved moldings have the look of a well-loved piece.

Now that we are organized, our next favorite part of a master bedroom is a big fluffy bed. We cannot sleep without a down comforter! There are plenty of down alternative options out there for people with allergies. Plush pillows, and soft layered bedding are also a must.
Lighting can play an important role in the feeling of a room. We like lamp lighting with low wattage bulbs wherever possible as opposed to overhead lighting. The effect is softer and more inviting. It’s great to invest in fabulous lamps that never go out of style, and look good with any bedding if you happen to switch out your linens.

Upholstered seating in a bedroom is a great way to add character and give yourself a spot to sit while doing everyday tasks. There are so many options for small accent chairs, benches, even chaises! Almost all of them are able to be customized with wood finishes including paint, hundreds of fabric options, and small details such as decorative banding, nail head trim, top-stitching, and accent pillows. It is easier than ever to create a custom piece that perfectly coordinates with your room!

One aspect that is frequently overlooked is window treatments. There are countless style options out there for any type of window. The room darkening and light filtering options available are many and allow you to create a completely dark sleeping space for a bedroom or filter light softly for mornings.  Adding drapes to covered windows is another way to add texture or pattern. Sheer linens give a soft dreamy vibe, while bolder patterns allows you to showcase your pattern mixing skills! We recently added new displays in our showrooms, which help customers visualize how treatments will look, and also give a great idea of the options out there!
