Rugs

They are either the first or last thing that clients think of when working on a room with our designers. There is no magic trick designers use for selecting rugs. Each project is different from one another and there could be several layouts proposed in a presentation. Some people may have an heirloom rug that makes the first brushstroke to work with in a plan or perhaps they may want to start with a new rug altogether.

Material and construction play a major factor into your rug selection as they can also determine the price. For example, a hand-knotted wool rug will cost more than a machine woven polyester rug, but will last a lifetime (with proper maintenance). Rugs materials, much like textiles, are endless. From natural materials such as jute, cotton, and sisal to animal based ones like wool, silk, and hair on hide, or even man-made fibers being polypropylene, olefin, and PET. Each one has it’s upsides and best application use!

Claws, paws, and shoes… Oh My! Angel at our Virginia Beach showroom says, “Always consider the traffic in the space and if it is the right fit for the rug’s material.”
Here are a few things to consider:
Pets are great companions, but a looped rug is not the best option because it will catch on their nails.
Shag rugs are in right now, but if you have a space where people gather coming in from the beach do you really want that shag rug to collect the sand?
While a silk on wool rug has a gorgeous sheen, it would not be well suited in an active kitchen or den.

Today’s rug options run the spectrum in budget, style and function.  Ask one of our designers to help you create the perfect match for your home.
