Current Design Project – A Cavalier Romance

Posted on February 13th, 2019 by exoutlet.

Every month our blog will feature a design project our team has recently completed.  A single project can range from one or two rooms to a whole house, to a commercial project such as these hotel renovations!  Whether starting from scratch or incorporating existing elements, our designers study every detail and element in each space.  Exotic Home curates from many domestic artisans and combines it with our Global Imports collection to make each space an exclusive design.

This month we are featuring a residence built on the grounds of the historic Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach, VA designed by Andrew Grider. He went to school for Furniture Design and Construction at establishments in Philadelphia and San Diego.

The whole project springboarded from when the clients came into Exotic Home and narrated in their words, “(We) wanted something different and unique, and Exotic Home has that. But I also wanted something nice. What I came in for I wasn’t sure what I wanted. I found this great resource in you!”

“I had paralysis over having so many choices. (Andrew) being there to guide me there through limiting those choices, so that I could pick from a few rather than the entire internet, or a book, or a magazine. You gave me choices that really rang true to what it is that I wanted.”

All the shapes in the bungalow are linear, and everything brought in from Exotic Home relaxes the space. After the Agave Chandelier fixture was chosen everything else fell into place. The chandelier echos the tree in the courtyard just beyond the french doors. “The balance between organic, elegant, and casual; which has that California vibe.”

A tufted jute rug atop distressed European oak floors anchors the living area while providing both comfort and durability. Adding to the durability factor in the room the textile on thier Lee Industries sofa is a Crypton Home.

In the master suite a chandelier with sea glass hangs above the bed and sconces with a woven wicker shade flank the artwork hung above it. “People have come over here and want to come in to look at my chandeliers! They see it lit up when walking by.”
